The department trains the undergraduate and postgraduate students in assessing the dental needs of the population and delivering dental care through efficient outreach programs. The department has a fully functional comprehensive dental clinic, catering to all the basic dental treatment needs, under one roof and also a well-equipped mobile dental unit to render dental care to the deprived rural and semi-urban communities.

The outreach dental programmes are well established through the setup of rural and urban health centers and adopted schools and villages, which provide an excellent opportunity for the community to benefit and also making the students proficient in rendering dental care through community efforts.

The department also has a museum and counseling room equipped with audiovisual aids and other educative materials for patient health education and motivation, particularly focusing on tobacco counseling.
